The Passive House is the world’s leading standard in energy efficient building. Energy saved on heating is 80% compared to conventional standards of new buildings. Depending on climate, the energy requirement for heating is lower than 10 to 20 kWh/(m²a), adding up to a low cost of 15 to 25 € per month.Very efficient components and a high-tech ventilation system, achieve these giant savings without compromising comfort, but rather increasing it.

Steps

Planning determines the speed and costs of any project. If your project is correctly planned then all targets will be met. Planning meetings will be held to discuss the following four elements:
Design is a wide scope to discuss but entails, house layout, site layout & solar orientation, house specification. Insulated Foundations – In order to build a passive house we must first think about the ground on which the house will stand. Most heat loss from any home leaves through the floor and foundations, therefore this is the first place to begin insulating. Floors need to be insulated using 2 layers of 100mm EPS insulation. The second layer must cover the gaps in the first layer and all gaps should be sealed using expanding foam. The internal edges should also be sealed. Insulating the floor well is still not sufficient as the foundations themselves will lose heat from the house therefore these need to be sealed.
House Composition – The composition of the walls and roof of your home determines the level of passiveness or safety your home has. Thermal blocks allow the home to be warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. The timber is spruce, the strongest timber available. The external finish is comprised of an initial mesh then a first coat.
Renewable Energy is the final part of the planning process. As you have built a highly engineered passive house you now need to power it and there is not better way than naturally. The wind and the sun proves enough energy to heat and power your home all year round but to maximise the energy efficiency we need to calculate the requirements and and fulfill them. The savings over 25 years (ie the period of a standard mortgage) is emnormous and cannot be ignored as the savings could excees $100,000.

Renewable energy can be harnessed using the following ways:
* Solar Water heaters provide 70% of utility hot water needs.
* Solar PV panels will provide electrical power.* Wind Turbines will produce excellent power for your home.* Internal effective efficient low cost heating radiators maybe needed for areas with very low winter temperatures (minus 25 Celsius degrees).

The polystyrene blocks have a very good insulating value. AustroCasa’s complete insulation cover and the monolithic concrete wall eliminates air-infiltration and drafts in the structures.

To control inside humidity and insure a controlled supply of fresh air within the structure, AustroCasa buildings should be equipped with an air exchange system. Because of AustroCasa’s superior efficiency, heating and air conditioning equipment can often be safely downsized by 20-25% (compared to equipment needed in ordinary framed structures) for homes or commercial structures.

For this type of structures, engineering studies show that, under wind loads, a 15 cm AustroCasa concrete wall is 2 to 8 times stronger than a typical framed wall.

In the laboratory tests, solid concrete walls was proven to be the best protection against flying debris created by winds as high as 300 km per hour, when compared to conventional framed walls or hollow concrete block walls.

The expanded polystyrene insulation in the ICF (Insulating Concrete Form) system does not support the growth of Aspergillus versicolor and Stachybotrys chartarum strains of mold.

The solid concrete in ICF wall makes it the most affordable choice for permanent resistance to fire. Interior concrete walls have long been recognized for the protection they provide to the adjacent rooms and outside perimeter walls offer that same resistance to natural wildfires. Engineer’s studies confirm that the addition of the insulating forms does not affect a concrete wall’s Fire Ratings.

De ce ventilație?

Izolaţia şi etanşeitatea au rolul de a micşora consumul de energie pentru încălzirea clădirii, dar în acelaşi timp, lipsa unui sistem de ventilaţie poate afecta atât structura clădirii cât şi sănătatea ocupanților.

Sistemul de ventilaţie adaptat clădirii are rolul de a asigura eliminarea vaporilor de apă cauzatoare de igrasie, mucegai și îmbolnăviri.

Pe lângă asigurarea unui aer mereu prospăt în clădire, aerul se filtrează de praf şi polen, iar în lipsa prafului dispar şi acarienii care duc la îmbolnăviri alergice.

Este absolut necesar ca toate clădirile izolate cu polistiren sau vată minerală având tâmplărie termopan, să fie dotate cu sisteme de ventilaţie, în scopul evitării consecinţelor nedorite, cum ar fi igrasie, mucegai, bacterii, acarieni, polen şi praf, care cauzeaza distrugeri materiale şi îmbolnăvirea ocupanților locuinței.

Norme

Normele interne şi cele europene prescriu un schimb minim de aer pe oră pentru asigurarea unui ambient sănătos atât pentru activităţile din timpul zilei cât şi în timpul odihnei, indiferent dacă este vorba de locuinţe particulare sau încăperi comunitare.

Sisteme de ventilatie pentru Casa pasiva

Pentru casele pasive recomandăm ventilaţia cu recuperare de căldura (HRV – heat recovery ventilation) care asigură un flux continuu de aer proaspăt preîncălzit, reducând cheltuielile de încălzire, acestea reprezentând un element de bază în fiecare casă pasivă, care are un consum foarte redus de energie, aproape de zero.

Sistemului de ventilaţie cu recuperare de căldura este un sistem foarte simplu: se captează aerul din exterior printr-un turn, se introduce într-un tub special antimicrobial îngropat în pământ, după care este ataşat sitemului de ventilaţie. În tubul din pământ aerul se va încălzi sau se va răci la temperatura de pivniţă, astfel vara vom avea un aer prerăcit și iarna unul pre-încălzit.
